MISSION
Primary and secondary education is not free in Zimbabwe. Currently, there are a lot of parents who are struggling with paying the current school fees for their children. This situation is even more destitute for the orphans in the country. Economic depression and HIV have dramatically increased children’s vulnerability in the past years, in respect to Zimbabwe's total children's population, Zimbabwe has the highest percentage of orphans in the world.
"Zimbabwe's education sector, once a model in Africa, continues to be riddled with challenges. Public financing of the sector declined significantly over the last decade, leaving most schools with no funds to purchase even the most basic teaching materials such as textbooks and stationery," said a recent statement by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF). More and more have been dropping out: "Almost 50 percent of Zimbabwe's children graduating from primary school were not proceeding to secondary school," the UNICEF statement noted.
